Louis CK is one of my favorite comedians. He talked me out of yelling at my phone. Lucky for me, this bit was on Conan, as most of his routines are far from clean.

Brooklyn natives Danny and Annie Perasa reminisce about their 27-year love affair. Though he may not look the part, when Danny talks about his love for Annie, it’s obvious that he is one of the world’s great romantics.
Aside from a few quotes here and there, I don’t really talk much about my relationship with Paul on here. I feel, after that moving video, I would be doing a disservice if I didn’t mention it, because the video echoed, almost exactly, how we feel about each other.
Paul is a wonderful husband (I would say he’s the best husband in the world, but I don’t really have the scientific data to back that up as I’ve never tried anyone else’s husband) and we’re so deeply in love. He tells me I’m beautiful almost every time I turn around and we always tell each other, “I love you.” Of course, we’ve had our share of rough patches, but we’ve made it through. Nowadays, we spend a good deal of our time laughing and being silly and I never have to worry that, if anything happened, we never shared our true feelings with each other.
Enough of the mushy stuff. Have a wonderful day.

I’m referring to this as “the video about Chattanooga that no one in Chattanooga has seen.” Apparently, it has been airing for the last two summers. Since it is trying to convince people to visit and we’re already here, I didn’t know about this commercial until it won a national ADDY award; that’s the advertising industry’s equivalent of an Oscar. (Though I imagine the red carpet shots aren’t quite as glamorous.) After reading all the stories on the award, I still didn’t see the video until Sumit posted it on Google+.
I like that the commercial itself was locally made. It was produced by The Johnson Group ad agency and filmed by Atomic Films. The song (available as a free download) was written by The Johnson Group’s Roger Vaughn and has won awards of its own.
Part of a $1.5 million advertising campaign for the Chattanooga Visitor’s Bureau, it is credited with a 17% increase in hotel/motel tax revenue.
The entire commercial is shot in tilt shift which is a technique that makes everything look like it’s been miniaturized and filmed in stop-motion. See how many locations you can identify in the video.

For my mother, who wants to see the whales:
Michael Fishbach, on a trip to take pictures of whales, encountered a juvenile humpback whale so entangled in a fishing net that it seemed dead. Fishbach, with four friends and one little knife, spent over an hour cutting the netting from the whale. They are rewarded in a beautiful way.
Fredde Gedde uses a green screen and copious amounts of musical talent to do this wonderful Queen cover.
My friend Eric posted this video with the line, “What do you get when you cross a banjo with an accordion and a classical bass? This…”
Rocks, doesn’t it? I watched it 3 times and then popped over to Amazon and downloaded the album (Sigh No More for only 7.99!) and we’ve been playing it ever since. The kids like this song most of all and nearly have it memorized. Of course, not all of the songs are kid friendly (see: Little Lion Man).
Paul was in the car listening to the kids sing along and he said: You aren’t letting them listen to the whole album are you?
No, dear. If they’re going to learn the f word, they’ll have to learn it from the screaming argument we’re about to have regarding your perception of my parenting skills.
Oh, okay. That’s much better.

•In honor of April Fools’ Day, here’s one of my favorite prank videos. It’s #7 in prank war between two guys at CollegeHumor.com (You can watch their series of quickly escalating pranks from the beginning here.) In this one, Amir gets a once-in-a-lifetime chance at $500,000. If you think this is too mean, you might want to keep in mind that the last prank ended Streeter’s relationship with his girlfriend so I think Amir had this coming.
As part of Dove’s Real Beauty campaign, this 2006 video shows the process of becoming society’s version of beautiful. I’m not sure if it means my expectations are too high or I just don’t spend enough time getting ready in the morning.

This is an amazing video of the tsunami, from the first trickle of water to terrible destruction in just 6 minutes. The force of the water is so surprising. The beginning of the video is filmed at street level and the rest at uncomfortably close to the quickly rising water. I kept telling the cameraman to back up. If my husband had been there he would have noted that had the cameraman not stayed safe, we wouldn’t be watching this video, would we?
The kids and I watched coverage of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan the day it happened. Wesley said, “Mom, we have to go over and help them right now! Can we, Mom?”
Sorry, kiddo, but I doubt bringing a 5 and 6 year-old to a country with food, water, and transportation issues will be much benefit to the local population. I had to explain to him that we could certainly do things like that when he was a teenager, but he was a bit young for it now.
I wonder how Paul’s going to feel about Wesley getting my “let’s going running out the door every time we see a need” gene.
